All motorists driving in France will have to carry a breathalyser under a new law that comes into force on 1 July 2012. Failure to comply will carry a minimum fine of 11 euros. It is expected that this law won't be implemented until 1 November 2012 by the Gendarmerie.
Breathalyser kits must have the NF (Norme Francaise) quality seal of approval. This is 0.5 per cent limit not the UK's 0.8 per cent limit.
These kits will retail for £39.95 and can be obtained from www.travelspot.co.uk
This law is pretty clever because it will mean no one can plead ignorance to the drink drive limit and will be a clear indication to the courts as to the drivers intention.
